On May 13, the CDC issued updated guidance providing that those who are fully vaccinated can resume activities — including going to work (in non-health care settings) — without wearing a mask or social distancing. On May 17, OSHA adopted the updated CDC guidance as its own policy on masks.
Notably, the CDC and OSHA guidance does not override or impact the mask requirement for non-vaccinated employees or when otherwise required by state, county, city, or other local guidance, so OSHA may still enforce mask requirements in those scenarios. The change in OSHA’s mask policy also does not alter or negate its other guidance pertaining to protecting employees from COVID, as summarized here.
